Mapua’s Will Gozum wins Most Valuable Player title of NCAA 93 juniors tournament

WILL Gozum of Mapua was awarded Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball tournament.

Gozum received the award on Friday, although Mapua ended up losing the opener of the finals series to La Salle Grenhills.

In the elimination round, the 6-foot-6 Gozum averaged 13.2 points, 10 rebounds and 2.6 blocks as the Red Robins finished with a 13-5 record for second place in the team standings.

Gozum, who duplicated teammate Mike Enriquez’s MVP reign in 2015, also led Mapua to a return trip to the finals after beating Letran in the Final Four.

Gozum was joined in the Mythical Five by Aaron Fermin of Arellano, Joel Cagulangan and Inand Fornilos of La Salle Greenhills and Warren Bonifacio of Mapua.

Fornilos took the Rookie of the Year honors and was also part of the Best Defensive Team along with Fermin, Bonifacio, Gozum and Romel Calahat of San Sebastian.

Fermin claimed the Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Clint Escamis of Mapua and Neil Villapando of San Sebastian secured the Most Improved Player honors.
