    San Beda secures spot in NCAA Jrs semis with close win over Perpetual

    SAN Beda was the first team to punch a ticket to the Final Four of the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament, slipping past Perpetual, 100-97, on Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    Rhayyan Amsali tallied 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists as four other Red Cubs got to double digits in scoring.

    Cyrus Llarena contributed 13 points, as Kent Pelipel waxed hot from deep and scored 12 built on four treys.

    Troy Valencia added 11 points, while Justine Sanchez tallied 10 points and seven rebounds as San Beda led by 21 points before a furious fourth quarter rally by the Junior Altas trimmed it down to a three-point spread.

    The Red Cubs scored their 13th win in 14 games.

    Emman Galman and Edzel Galoy scored 25 points each for Perpetual Help, which dropped to 5-7.

    In the second game, Jose Rizal University sent defending champion Mapua to the brink of elimination with a 77-74 nipping.

    Gholam Garcia paced had 19 points and four rebounds as the Light Bombers improved to a 7-6 record.

    Raul Gentalan added 19 points, three rebounds and two assists, as Fred Ganut had 13 points and five boards.

    Jonnel Policarpio was able to register a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, but that wasn't enough to stop the Red Robins from falling to a 4-9 card.
