SAN Beda stretched its winning run to four with an emphatic 88-77 beating of defending champion Mapua to end the first round of the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament on top Friday at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
The Red Cubs brandished their depth as five players notched double-digits in scoring.
"Simula pa lang naman, alam na talaga naming we're 15-man deep," said coach Manu Inigo.
Justine Sanchez led the cavalry with 20 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks, but he needed not to be on the court when San Beda scored 10 unaswered points to flip a tied game at 41 to a 51-41 edge in the third frame.
The lead ballooned to 17, 73-56, after Josiah Alcantara scored seven straight points with 9:18 left to play.
Alcantara punctured 10 points, all of which in the second half, as Tony Ynot churned a double-double with his season-best 13 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.
Rhayyan Amsali also did his part with 12 points, five boards, four dimes, and three steals, while Yukien Andrada got his way down low with 11 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
San Beda capped off its first round with an 8-1 card, while sending Mapua to a 3-6 slate.
Megan Galang carried the Red Robins with 21 points, as Jonnel Policarpio churned out 20 points and 12 rebounds in the losing cause.
