    Pace-setting San Beda Red Cubs keep foot on gas pedal, eliminate champ Mapua

    SAN Beda gave defending champion Mapua the boot in the NCAA Season 95 seniors basketball tournament with a 91-82 victory Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    Rhayyan Amsali unloaded 30 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals to carry the Red Cubs to their 11th straight conquest.

    Justine Sanchez added 15 points, five boards, two dimes, and two blocks, while Tony Ynot got 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists in the win to remain at the top with its 15-1 slate.

    It was a dominating win for San Beda despite already clinching the top seed, and coach Manu Inigo wants to maintain that killer instinct heading into the Final Four.

    "On track naman kami sa goal naming mabalik ang San Beda sa taas. Yung no. 1, nakuha na namin sa eliminations, pero sana magtuloy-tuloy pa," he said.

    Jonnel Policarpio got 29 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the Red Robins, which suffered their fifth straight defeat to bow out of the playoff race with the 4-11 card.

    In the first game, CSB-La Salle Greenhills drubbed Perpetual, 81-71.

    Emman Galman carried the load for the Junior Altas with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists as his side fell to a 5-9 card.

    In the nightcap, Lyceum nabbed back-to-back wins with a 69-58 win over EAC-Immaculate Concepcion Academy.

    Mac Guadana collected 17 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists as the Junior Pirates rose to joint second place at 9-6.

    Jae Omandac also collected 13 points and seven boards, as Gyle Montano and Leonard Gamlanga both scored 10.

    Adrian Balowa poured 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three dimes for the already-eliminated Brigadiers (2-12).
