MAPUA clinched a top two spot in the NCAA Season 94 juniors basketball tournament with a big 86-78 victory over Arellano on Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
At 14-4, the Red Robins have locked themselves to the second-seed, surviving the tailend of the eliminations without top gun Clint Escamis.
Dan Arches led Mapua with 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, as Jonnel Policarpio dominated the paint with his 15 points, 19 boards, five assists and a steal.
Paolo Hernandez also flirted with a double-double with his 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Aaron Fermin's solid 20-point and 14-rebound performance once again went down the drain in what has been a disappointing campaign for the Braves.
Rom Junsay got 15 points, four assists, and two rebounds, as Marlon Espiritu had 15, three, and three in the defeat as Arellano dropped to 6-11.
