Amsali on fire as San Beda Red Cubs defuse JRU Light Bombers in NCAA juniors

Gilas Youth standout shows way as Red Cubs make it back-to-back wins

RHAYYAN Amsali exploded for 29 points to tow San Beda to a 99-80 trouncing of Jose Rizal University Friday in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Gilas Pilipinas Youth stalwart dropped four treys as he went on 11-of-18 from the field, to go with seven rebounds and three assists to lead the Red Cubs to a second straight win.

Justine Sanchez chipped in 13 points and four rebounds, Hans Nicdao got 10 points and four boards, and Yukien Andrada got eight points, 12 rebounds, and four assists in the victory.

    Gholam Garcia uncorked 21 points and six rebounds as the Light Bombers remained winless through two games.

    In the second game, Arellano turned back Letran, 79-72, for its first win of the tourney.

    Rodman Templonuevo poured in 14 points and seven rebounds, while Miguel Sahali and Chris Recto both had 14 in the Braves conquest.

    Arellano survived the eruption of Gilas Youth member Joshua Ramirez, who led the Squires with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

    Shawn Umali had a double-double with his 17 points and 10 rebounds, as CJ Saure had 15 points and six rebounds in the loss.

    Lyceum also fended off a game challenge from EAC-Immaculate Concepcion Academy, 85-76, to go up 2-0 in the tourney.

    Mac Guadana anchored the Junior Pirates with 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

    Jae Omandac chimed in a double-double with his 17 points and 10 boards, as Gyle Montano got 12 points and five rebounds.

    Joshua Dandoy carried the Brigadiers (0-2) with 16 in the loss.
