    Edzel Galoy shows way as Perpetual Help edges Mapua in NCAA Jrs

    PERPETUAL showed a strong statement with a 76-62 victory over defending champion Mapua on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    Emman Galman and Yuki Kawamura conspired in a 13-5 blast that turned a 49-41 Junior Altas lead to a 62-46 advantage.

    Edzel Galoy showed the way for Perpetual Help with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

    Kyle Cuevas added a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards, as Shawn Orgo scored 10.

    "May opening jitters pa syempre, pero nung nakuha na namin momentum, tuloy-tuloy na," said coach Myk Saguiguit.

    Galman and Kawamura both scored nine.

    Rommel Mercado fired 13 points for Mapua, which missed the services of Jonnel Policarpio who was out due to personal reasons.

    Last year's runner-up CSB-La Salle Greenhills, meanwhile, scored a 72-68 squeaker over Emilio Aguinaldo College-Immaculate Concepcion Academy.

    Jiam Quiambao drilled five treys, including the go-ahead bucket to cap off his 19-point performance in the Greenies' season-opener.

    RC Calimag added 13 points and five boards, as Kobe Palencia got 11 points, three assists and two rebounds to give new LSGH coach Karl Santos his first win.

    JR Ilustrisimo led the Brigadiers with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

    Jose Rizal University also ushered in a new era with a 72-68 win over San Sebastian in the nightcap.

    Gholam Garcia had a double-double of 17 points, 12 rebounds with two assists and two steals for the Light Bombers.

    Conrad Famaranco contributed 16 points, eight boards, six dimes and two steals, as Jonathan Medina got 12 points and nine rebounds.

    Milo Janao paced the Golden Staglets with 18 points and four rebounds, while Dave Balo had 11 points and six boards.
