PERPETUAL will be entering the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball quarterfinals with much-needed momentum.
The Altas made easy work of Lyceum, 72-57, at Playtime Filoil Centre on Sunday to end the elimination round on a high.
Aside from that, Perps also snapped its three-game losing streak to finish the preliminary round with a 9-4 record, inarguably the top seed of Group A.
“I told them to treat this game like a playoff game and I told them to know what we’re preparing for and I think they did that in this game,” coach Olsen Racela said.
“We had time to work on what we need to improve. We were hitting shots, but more importantly, we were moving the ball.”
Mark Gojo Cruz led the Altas anew with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. The troika of John Abis, JP Boral, and Juan Tulabut then scored nine points each in the win.

Perpetual will now be watching Tuesday’s double-header intently, as Jose Rizal University and Emilio Aguinaldo College duke it out for Group B’s last ticket to the quarters.

John Barba dropped 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, but to no avail, as the Pirates ended elims with a 3-10 record.
Still, Lyceum has a shot at the quarters when it takes on San Sebastian (3-10) in the play-in for Group A’s fourth seed, also on Tuesday. Should the Pirates win, they will take on San Beda armed with a playoff bonus.
