MAPUA kept a stronghold of the second spot in the NCAA Juniors tournament as it blasted Perpetual Help 89-65 on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Red Robins used a huge third-quarter run to blow past the Junior Altas and cruise to their sixth win in eight games. Leading by just six after the first half, the Red Robins outscored the Junior Altas, 27-11, in that stretch to break the game wide open.
Jonnel Policarpio and Dan Arches spearheaded the Red Robins in that period as they stomped their dominance while Perpetual dropped its second straight game.
Policarpio finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds as Arches finished with 17 points. Clint Escamis and Paolo Hernandez added 14 points apiece.
Mark Gallano paced the now 4-3 Altas with 15 points.
In the second game, San Sebastian compounded on San Beda’s struggles as it escaped with a narrow 52-51 win.
Milo Janao finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds as they improved to 4-5.
Zach Estacio led the Red Cubs with 13 points.
