MAPUA could be getting another player from its juniors basketball team in big man Warren Bonifacio.
Bonifacio, sources said, is expected to stay with the Mapua basketball program following the end of his high school career with the Red Robins.
Sources also said Bonifacio is already practicing with the Mapua seniors team along with other juniors players 2015 NCAA MVP Mike Enriquez, Eric Jabel, and Joaqui Garcia.
The San Simon, Pampanga native is one of the most sought-after big men out of high school. In the recent NCAA Season 93 juniors tournament, Bonifacio was one of the workhorses for the Red Robins. He averaged 11.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks for the Red Robins.
Bonifacio was also part of the Mythical Five last season along with teammate Will Gozum, who won the MVP award.
The 6-foot-3 Bonifacio is set to join a group of high school players from the Mapua’s Malayan High School program that will be joining the Cardinals. Among the players from their juniors program that have stayed with Mapua are 2016 Finals MVP Bryan Samudio, and Jasper Salenga.
Noah Lugo, who played with Lyceum before transferring to Mapua, also came from the juniors program.
Justin Serrano, Denniel Aguirre, and Laurenz Victoria have already played for the Cardinals after their stints with the Red Robins.
