MAPUA toppled top-seed CSB-La Salle Greenhills, 77-74, in a thrilling Game Three to reclaim the NCAA Season 94 juniors basketball championship on Thursday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Dan Arches scored all of the Red Robins' six points in the fourth quarter as they did just enough to avenge their defeat from last season's finals.
The Greenies looked to have forced overtime as Joshua David drilled a triple from the top of the arc with 0.5 seconds remaining but officials nullified the basket, determining in a review that the ball came off the LSGH player’s hands after the buzzer.
It was a starmaking performance for Paolo Hernandez, who went on a scorching 7-of-13 clip from deep to lead Mapua with a career-best 33 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals in his final game in the high school level, enough for him to be named as the Finals MVP.
Arches also unloaded 22 points and five rebounds for the Red Robins, who won their 22nd title in the juniors division despite not having main man Clint Escamis for Game Three.
