MAPUA romped past Perpetual Help, 94-74, on Thursday to capture its third win in as many outings in the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball tournament at the Mapua gym.
Will Gozum finished with 16 points, while Warren Bonifacio also had a big outing as he had 15 markers, 21 rebounds, and four blocks for the Red Robins, who are now tied with La Salle Greenhills at first place with a 3-0 win-loss slate.
Clint Escamis had 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Earl Socias had 11 points for the Red Robins, who led by as many as 27 points in the contest.
It was a tight game at the end of the first quarter, 17-13, but Mapua outscored Perpetual Help, 25-16, in the second canto.
"Sa umpisa, medyo masama 'yung depensa namin pero nung second and third, naka-adjust na kami hanggang sa nagkaroon na ng kumpiyansa 'yung mga players," said Mapua coach Randy Alcantara.
The Altalettes fell to 0-3.
Jielo Razon scored 14 points, while Errol Bongay had a team-high 14 rebounds for Perpetual Help.
Alcantara admitted their was pressure, at first, playing in front of the home crowd at the Mapua Intramuros campus.
"Una, pressure talaga pero nung na-feel na ng mga players, gumana na kami," said Alcantara, whose team is now practicing at the Mapua gym after the senior high school was transferred from the Malayan campus in Paco to Intramuros.
