MAC Guadana powered Lyceum to a big 89-78 stunner of Mapua to stay in the Final Four hunt in the NCAA Season 94 juniors basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The do-it-all swingman scattered 26 points, six rebounds, four assists and a block to guide the Junior Pirates to their third straight win.
With Guadana orchestrating the offense, Lyceum went on a big run in the fourth period that gave them an 82-70 lead with less than four minutes to play.
Despite John Barba fouling out with 3:15 remaining, the Junior Pirates did enough to hold off the Red Robins, which sorely missed the presence of main man Clint Escamis, who is still nursing an injured left knee.
Barba added 24 points, nine rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Jearelan Omandac notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Lyceum is making a late run for the playoffs, in solo fifth place with its 8-7 card.
Dan Arches desperately tried to keep Mapua in the game with his 29 points, eight rebounds and two assists before faltering in the endgame.
Jonnel Policarpio chipped in 16 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Paolo Hernandez had 10 and six.
The Red Robins also had to play majority of the first half without head coach Randy Alcantara, who figured in a minor car accident on his way to the venue.
