    John Barba scores 27 in Lyceum's 35-point demolition of Mapua in NCAA Jrs

    JOHN Barba made his triumphant return to Lyceum as it mauled Mapua by 35 points, 101-66, Friday in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    The hardworking forward collected 27 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and one assist in his first game from a knee injury.

    Barba and Mac Guadana combined for 16 of the Junior Pirates' 27 first quarter points to grab a 27-13 lead and break away for good.

    Lyceum led by as many as 37 points, with the 35-point rout marking the worst loss for any defending champion in NCAA juniors cage history.

    "Yung mga bata, every practice ineemphasize namin na kailangan nilang ibigay ang best nila para madala namin sa game namin. Yun naman ang naging resulta," said coach JC Docto, whose wards rose to 3-0 to tie San Beda at the top of the standings.

    Jae Omandac added 24 points, five boards, three assists, as well as a steal and a block, while Gyle Montano got 13 points, seven rebounds, and six dimes for the Junior Pirates.

    Guadana finished with nine points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks in the win.

    The Red Robins sunk to 0-3. Megan Galang scored 11 points on top of four rebounds and two assists.

    Joshua Ramirez also willed Letran to a huge 70-52 shocker of Perpetual earlier in the day.

    The Gilas Youth member waxed hot with six treys en route to 26 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists to lead the Squires to their first victory in four outings.

    CJ Saure chipped in 18 points and five boards, while Shawn Argente got eight points, three assists and two rebounds.

    It was a shock defeat for the Junior Altas, which fell to their first loss after starting the season 2-0.

    Shawn Orgo carried Perpetual with 14 points and seven rebounds, as John Escalante had 10 points, five boards, four assists, and two steals in the defeat.

    Junior Altas' leader Emman Galman missed the game due to personal matters.

    In the nightcap, Arellano downed Jose Rizal University with a close 70-68 decision.

    Danren Nepomuceno led the Braves with 18 points, nine rebounds, and three assists, as Ivan Salinel got 13 points, four dimes, and three boards in the win as they ascended to a 2-1 card.

    Jonathan Medina carried the Light Bombers (2-2) with his 13 points and seven boards, while Vince Icban got 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in the losing cause.
