LYCEUM bounced back with an 81-64 win over Arellano on Friday in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
John Barba bannered the Junior Pirates' balanced attack with his 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Mac Guadana was all over the court with his 16 points, seven dimes, four boards, two steals, and a block.
Their effort led Lyceum to a huge rebound from its 99-97 overtime loss to San Beda last Tuesday. The Junior Pirates rose to 6-3 at the end of the first round of the eliminations, good for second spot.
"Masaya kami kasi first time lang sa history ng Lyceum na second kami sa dulo ng first round," said coach JC Docto. "Again, kailangan pa namin mag-work hard, pero swak pa rin naman sa goal namin."
Gyle Montano also did his damage with 12 points and four rebounds, as Matthew Ragasa had 10 points and seven boards.
Lyceum wasted no time asserting control of the game with a 22-14 first quarter.
The Junior Pirates slowly broke the floodgates, using a 21-point fourth-quarter finishing kick to cap the 17-point blowout.
Adrian Rellama paced the Braves with 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Chris Recto had 11 points and six boards in the losing cause.
Arellano suffered its first back-to-back defeats this season to fall to 5-3.
