LYCEUM showed why its considered as one of the top contenders in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament, beating Letran, 74-64, on Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Mac Guadana was sensational in the Junior Pirates' opener, coming up with 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block to usher in his final high school season.
Jae Omandac added 14 points and three rebounds, while John Barba got 12 points, three boards and three assists before hurting his right knee in the third quarter.
"Happy kami para sa first win namin," said new Lyceum head coach JC Docto. "Half ng team namin beterano, led by Mac and John, pero syempre, kailangan pa rin namin trabahuin."
The Junior Pirates wasted no time seizing control of the game, grabbing a 38-20 halftime lead before banking on that cushion to weather the late storm from the Squires.
CJ Saure topped Letran with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Shawn Argente had 12 points and seven boards.
