    Valenzuela atones for late error with OT dagger as LSGH deals San Beda first loss

    LENNOX Valenzuela turned from zero to hero as he lifted CSB-La Salle Greenhills to a pulsating 99-98 nail-biter in overtime to deal erstwhile unbeaten San Beda its first defeat in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    The diminutive guard made up for his costly inbound turnover late in regulation and buried the game-winning floater with 2.2 seconds left in the extra period as the Greenies stretched their winning run to three.

    Valenzuela fired 23 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block for LSGH.

    RC Calimag poured 30 points on a scorching 6-of-7 shooting from downtown, alongside four boards, and two assists, while Jiam Quiambao added 12 points, four rebounds, and a block.

      Jan Manansala also dished out 10 points, nine rebounds, and three rejections as the Greenies forced joint leadership with the Red Cubs and the Arellano Braves with their identical 4-1 cards.

      Yukien Andrada's three from the top of the arc knotted the score at 86 with 16.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but San Beda was unable to capitalize on Valenzuela's gaffe as it failed to get a shot off as time expired in regulation.

      The Red Cubs also squandered a five-point lead in the final 1:23 as they allowed the Greenies to crawl their way back in the endgame.

      Andrada paced San Beda with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists in the loss.

      Kent Pelipel collected 19 points, five steals, two rebounds, and two assists, while Justine Sanchez had 17 points and eight rebounds to make up for the subpar performance of top gun Rhayyan Amsali, who was limited to just six points on a 2-of-10 shooting.

      Perpetual also halted its three-game losing skid with a 67-62 victory over San Sebastian.

      Emman Galman rekindled his fire as he poured 23 points, three rebounds, and three assists to lead the Junior Altas.

      Shawn Orgo chimed in 12 points, eight boards, and two steals, while Kyle Cuevas got nine points, five rebounds, and two blocks as Perpetual improved to an even 3-3 record.

      Milo Janao showed the way for the Golden Staglets with 20 points, nine rebounds, and two steals as his side dropped to 2-4.
