DEFENDING champion La Salle Greenhills marched to the championship in the NCAA Season 94 as it dominated Jose Rizal University, 97-71, on Monday in San Juan.
Coming off a shock 81-78 loss to the Light Bombers on Friday to force a knockout match, the Greenies made sure to not fall into the same trap as they put an end to JRU's Cinderella run this season.
Inand Fornillos and Joel Cagulangan came up big in the third period to create separation and finally defuse the Light Bombers.
The LSGH pair outscored JRU 17-15 in that stretch as the Greenies cruised to victory.
“More than the stat sheet, it was the intangibles they brought. The leadership, the camaraderie,” said La Salle head coach Marvin Bienvenida.
“We learned our lesson from when we lost last game. We didn’t want that to happen again,” he added.
Fornillos finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds as Cagulangan had 19 points and 12 assists, while three other Greenies scored in double digits.
RC Calimag had 12 points, while Joshua David and Lennox Valenzuela had 11 apiece.
Marwin Dionisio led the Light Bombers with 22 points as John Amores finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 boards.
