JUSTINE Sanchez keyed San Beda's slim 83-79 escape to down Letran Saturday in the NCAA Season 95 juniors basketball tournament at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
The second-year forward drained the go-ahead trey with 1:46 remaining to put the Red Cubs, 82-79, before their defense locked up the win in the endgame.
Sanchez powered San Beda with 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Cubs bounced back from a 99-98 overtime defeat to CSB-La Salle Greenhills last week.
Yukien Andrada also threw his weight around to nab 20 points and eight rebounds for the Red Cubs, wo they played without main man Rhayyan Amsali, who is serving his one-game suspension.
"Sobrang thankful na nakuha namin yung panalo despite yung wala si Rhayyan," said coach Manu Inigo.
"Yung roles lang naman niya sa team is work hard and play hard every game. Hard work lang talaga nila yan."
Charles Delfino added eight points, five assists and two rebounds, while Wilmar Oftana got seven points and three boards for San Beda.
Letran had several chances to force overtime, but CJ Saure and Shawn Umali both flubbed their three-pointers, leading to Dom Cabanero icing the win with a split from the charity stripe with 5 seconds left.
Mark Omega stepped up for the Squires (3-5) with a double-double with his 17 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists, while Joshua Ramirez got 14 points, nine boards, and three dimes.
Umali finished nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
