JOSHUA Marcos stood out with a double-double performance to lead La Salle Greenhills in cruising over the University of Perpetual, 82-69, in the second round of the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball tournament on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Marcos led the Greenies with 22 points and 12 rebounds but he also had ample support as Joshua David chipped in 14 points, while Inand Fornillos added 10 markers.
“I’m happy for him (Marcos). He’s just playing his game. But I don’t really prepare them up to really score for big games like this. They really worked hard for it. The floor is open whoever wants to take the lead to play a good game so that’s about it wala namang fixed kung sino lang talaga scorer, with that it makes our team lethal,” La Salle Greenies head coach Marvin Buenvenida said.
Marcos had a fiery surge in the third quarter, scoring 12 points to help La Salle lead by 18 points against Perpetual, 63-45.
The Greenies continued their momentum in the fourth quarter to secure their tenth win in 12 outings to tie with defending champions Mapua Red Robins on the top of the standings.
Jielo Razon led the Junior Atlas with 17 points and 10 rebounds but his efforts were not enough as Perpetual fell to a 4-7 win-loss card.
“We worked hard for it the whole week. We had a week to practice since our last game so we prepared for Perpetual. We had to take care of business because ang mindset ko sa kanila if we won against them sa first round, we’ll work harder to win against them (Perpetual), or any team what we won against in the first round again,” Buenvenida said.
