LA Salle Greenhills edged Mapua, 74-68, on Friday in Game One of the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball finals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Joshua David scored nine of his 17 points in a sizzling third period that saw the Greenies outscore the reigning defending champion Red Robins, 26-15.

Game Two is set on Thursday with LSGH looking to win its first NCAA crown since the school was instituted in 1959.

La Salle won the NCAA juniors basketball crown in the 1955-56 season but the high school campus was still located at Taft Avenue.

The Greenies opened the third with a 10-1 run to take the lead for good, even as top big man Inand Fornilos was ejected after a hit on Mapua’s Will Gozum in the third period.

David had a double-double as he snared 14 rebounds, while Joel Cagulangan had 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Joshua Marcos had 15 points, nine in the final period to help the Greenies maintain the lead.
