    John Amores shows way as JRU upsets Arellano in NCAA Jrs

    JOHN Amores starred for Jose Rizal High School as it scored a huge 79-64 upset of Arellano High School Friday in the NCAA Season 94 juniors basketball tournament.

    The sophomore swingman was at the forefront of the Light Bombers’ killer 18-2 finishing kick as they evened their slate to 3-3.

    Amores uncorked eight of his 27 points in the fourth frame, to go with five points and four assists as JRU continued its giant-killing ways after earlier slaying the mighty Mapua

    “Ang maganda, talaga kasing pinagtatrabahuan ng mga bata e. Gusto talaga nila manalo,” said coach Vic Lazaro.

    John delos Santos contributed 14 points, nine assists, and four steals, while Gab Baluyot got 13 and four.

    It was only the Braves second defeat in seven games as they drop to fourth place at 4-2.

    Rom Junsay topscored for Arellano with 18 points and three rebounds, while Aaron Fermin notched 15 points, 20 boards, and three blocks in the loss.

    Zach Estacio also drained the biggest of his 10 points as his game-winning three-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining lifted San Beda to a 75-74 overtime thriller over Letran.

    Kent Pelipel paced the Red Cubs with 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists for their third straight victory to rise to 3-2.

    Kai Oliva contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and three dimes, as Winston Ynot got 10 and six.

    CJ Saure led the Squires (1-5) with 17 points and five rebounds in the loss, while Shaun Umali had 13 points and eight rebounds.

    Meanwhile, Clint Escamis powered Mapua to an 80-79 squeaker over EAC-Immaculate Concepcion Academy in the first game.

    The Red Robin star was at it again, rescuing his side from a 10-point halftime deficit, 43-33 and unleashed 28 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

    Dan Arches chimed in 22 points, five boards, and three assists, Paolo Hernandez had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Jonnel Policarpio got seven and 10 for Mapua, which sits at solo third at 5-2.

    Cjay Boado remained as the shining light for the Brigadiers, finishing with 21 points and seven rebounds.

    Adrian Balowa got 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, as JR Ilustrisimo had 15 and five as EAC-ICA remained at the cellar at 1-5.
