    Joel Cagulangan stars for LSGH in 2OT win over JRU

    JOEL Cagulangan provided the spark for CSB-La Salle Greenhills to a thrilling 94-87 double overtime win over Jose Rizal High School on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 94 juniors basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

    The graduating guard shook off a listless first half and unloaded all of his 31 points after the break to tow the Greenies to their third win in four outings. He also had nine assists, three rebounds and three steals.

    “They showed championship experience. Ang importante, the boys kept their minds in the game,” said coach Marvin Bienvenida.

    Joshua David added 16 points and eight rebounds, none bigger than his triple at the buzzer to tie the game at 71 to send the game to overtime.

    Inand Fornilos contributed a double-double of 13 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, while Jacob Cortez got 10 points, seven boards, three steals and two dimes.

    John Amores paced the Light Bombers with 25 points and seven rebounds as they dropped to their third defeat in five games.

    Marwin Dionisio’s last gasp triple tied the game at 81 to force the second overtime. He finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

    John Delos Santos had 20 points and 15 boards for JRU.

    Mapua High School, meanwhile, staved off a late rally from Arellano to score a 107-96 overtime win.

    Clint Escamis dropped five of his 32 points in the extra period, on top of seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks as the Red Robins dealt the Braves their first defeat of the season.

    Karl Mariano chimed in 23 points with three treys, and also had three assists, two rebounds and two assists, while Dan Arches scored 21.

    Marlon Espiritu topped Arellano (3-1) with 25 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Aaron Fermin got 18 points and 22 boards.

    Rom Junsay finished with 14 points on 4-of-25 shooting.

    San Beda High School halted its two-game losing run with an 86-81 squeaker over EAC-Immaculate Concepcion Academy.

    Jade Talampas powered the Red Cubs with15 points and 17 rebounds, as he was joined up front by Batang Gilas mainstay Joshua Lazaro, who had nine points and 10 boards.

    Kai Oliva topscored with 16 for San Beda.

    Cjay Boado and Ely Ilustrisimo both got 21 in the defeat for the Brigadiers, who suffered their third defeat in four games.
