    Cagulangan drops 38 on 12 triples as LSGH rips Arellano to get back on track

    JOEL Cagulangan put up a shooting display to remember as he towed La Salle Greenhills back on the winning column in the NCAA Juniors tournament following a 91-77 win over rival Arellano on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

    Coming off a huge loss to the Mapua Red Robins last Tuesday, Cagulangan put up his best scoring performance in his young, bustling career as he finished with 38 points, anchored on 12 three pointers which went along with nine rebounds and seven assists in the match where he was virtually untouchable.

    Cagulangan sparked a 43-point third quarter for the Greenies, connecting on seven threes from downtown as the defending champions took control of the game for good.

    Together with Joshua David, they combined for 35 markers in that stretch, outscoring the entire Arellano squad by three points in the period to set the stage for a huge bounce back victory.

    David finished with 24 points, six rebounds and three assists while Inand Fornillos added 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Greenies who remained on top of the standings with an 11-2 record.

    Rom Junsay led the Braves with 20 points as Aaron Fermin added 18 points and 14 boards in the loss which dropped them to 5-7.

    In the first game, Mapua went on a huge tear in the fourth period, completing a 69-66 come from behind win over Letran.

    Trailing by as many as 13 entering the fourth, Dan Arches and Paolo Hernandez conspired in a huge end game assault as they outscored the Squires 31-15 in that stretch.

    Hernandez finished with 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists as Arches finished with 19. The two combined for 20 points in the payoff period as the Red Robins kept in step with the Greenies at the top with a 10-3 record.

    Niel Guarino led the now 3-9 Knights with 15 points.
