AFTER being named part of the Mythical Five in his UAAP stint, former University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cub Inand Fornillos only has a championship on his mind as he thrives with the unbeaten La Salle Greenhills in the NCAA Season 93 juniors basketball tournament.
CSB-LSGH now has a 5-0 win-loss record to claim the solo lead after defeating Letran on Thursday at the Squires' homecourt, 64-63.
The 18-year-old Fil-Nigerian, who scored nine points and eight rebounds in the win, couldn’t be happier as the Greenies stayed unscathed after the thrilling win that broke the hearts of the Squires and their home fans.
"Siyempre proud kami sa mga sarili namin, dito iba yung pressure sa homecourt nila e, so ayun sobrang saya namin na natalo namin sila dito," he said.
The 6-foot-2 Greenie currently has an average of 12.4 points, 10.25 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. However, he said that he does not aim for an individual award but a championship for his team.
"Hindi ako nag-aiaim na mag-mythical five, ang aim ko talaga championship para sa team. Kumbaga extra na lang yung mga individual points," he said.
As a rookie in CSB-LSGH, Fornillos said that he is adjusting well with the coaches and players.
"Maganda naman, thankful ako kasi tinanggap nila ako as a brother. Parang family na kami kaagad, even nagsama pa lang kami ng one week, parang magkakilala na kami lahat," shared Fornillos.
La Salle next takes on a tough test in unbeaten Mapua, currently with a 4-0 win-loss record, on August 8 at The Arena in Pasig City. And Fornillos is ready to go all out to keep their slate unblemished.
"Gagawin ko lang lahat, hustle, depensa, contribute sa passing dapat kasi maishare namin ng team yung basketball. Teamwork pa rin ang panlaban namin, dapat solid pa rin ang team namin next game," he said.
