CEBUANO phenom Steve Nash Enriquez has decided to leave the comforts of home to play for the National University Bullpups in the UAAP.

After building his name in the south before bursting onto the scene during the NBTC Elite60 National Camp where he emerged as arguably the best player, Enriquez made the tough decision to depart from the University of the Visayas and try to improve his game over at NU’s camp.

Over and over again, the spitfire 16-year old emphasized that the decision was the toughest one that he had to make.

“I finally made the decision after consulting with players from the PBA and from here. My family also encouraged me to take the leap so that’s why I’m going to Manila to play for NU,” shared Enriquez, the grandson of former PBA player Alfredo Enriquez.

Enriquez joins the exodus of southern studs who have just recently made their way to NU. The list includes fellow UV standout Daniel Padilla, Jr. NBA National All-Star Reinhard Jumamoy and Sid Reroma, son of current Bulacan Kuyas head coach Britt Reroma.

Excited as he may be, Enriquez admitted getting butterflies in his stomach when he made the call to join an NU side coached by Goldwyn Monteverde.

“I’m excited but at the same time, I feel a tinge sadness that I will be away from my family and my former teammates,” he shared.

But much like his audacious forays into the shaded lane, Enriquez said he will take on the challenge head-on.

“I just have to steady myself and focus on what needs to be done. After all, this is for my future and I want to do well so that I can help out my family and possibly, my community as well.”

UV team manager and Cebu First District Rep. Gerald Anthony 'Samsam' Gullas, had nothing but praise for his former ward.

“We’re happy for him. NU is lucky to have a remarkable player and an even better student,” shared Gullas.

Enriquez, ever grateful for the opportunity that was given to him by Gullas and the rest of UV, vowed to be a Green Lancer regardless of what jersey he has on.

“I can’t thank UV enough. Even if I’ll be in Manila playing for NU, I’ll always be a Green Lancer. I will never forget UV.”
