NBL-Pilipinas seeks China ties
NBL-Pilipinas executive vice president Rhose Montreal and vice president of basketball operations Edward Aquino will attend the National Youth Basketball Open Finals opening ceremony on July 17, and will visit the office of China’s national basketball federation on July 19.
The mission of the trip is to build tie-ups in China through the CBA and NYBO with NBL-Pilipinas, particularly with its NBL Youth tournament.
Montreal said the league wants to increase the level of competition in the NBL Youth through the partnership with various groups in China.
The NYBO was inaugurated in 2017 where it attracted 3,000 young players aged 4 to 14, and featured 800 games across 10 cities in China, according to a report by China.org.cn.
“We want to forge partnerships with youth leagues in China in order to create an escalation program for the NBL Youth,” said Montreal.
The NBL Youth, inaugurated in 2019, is now in its Second Conference for the 2023 season with its 12U, 14U, 16U, 19U, and 21U tournaments.
