MINNESOTA Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine is out for the season after he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, the team announced on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time).

LaVine will undergo surgery after an MRI diagnosis revealed the injury which he sustained during Wolves’ 116-108 loss to the Pistons on Friday.

A rising star in Minnesota, LaVine is averaging 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game and is part of the team’s promising young core 21-year old players that include Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

With his impressive athleticism, the two-time dunk champion has progressed to just being a highlight reeal this season, adding a reliable outside shot and improved defense.

LaVine decided to forego a third dunk title on All-Star Weekend this Saturday to instead focus on helping his team reach the playoffs. Minnesota is currently 19-31 and is in 13th place in the Western Conference.

"He's done a lot more than just be a dunker -- his shooting, his playmaking, all that stuff," Thibodeau said. "Prioritizing winning and our team is the most important thing, and I think he'll do that."

Among LaVine’s well-wishers was Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James who posted on Twitter.
