THE multi-titled Xavier School Midgets basketball team added another feather to its cap after running away with the championship in the just concluded NBA Jr. 13U 5x5 tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.
Xavier crowned Jr. NBA U-13 champs
Coached by former PBA player TY Tang, the team completed a four-fame sweep of its division capped by an 85-52 thrashing of Adroit Singapore in the finals.
Games were held at the Ratwinit Bangkaeo School from July 28 to August 2 and featuring teams from other Asian countries.
Tyrese Tang was hailed finals MVP of the U-13 division.

The latest feat of the team was its sixth championship overall along with four runner-up finishes since April 22 as it competed in various club and school leagues across Metro Manila.
“Overall, it’s a worthy experience for our boys to play and compete with the top teams in their age brackets from different Asian countries,” said Tang, himself a product of Xavier school who spent his entire PBA career with Rain or Shine.
“Definitely, we gained learnings and insights playing against bigger and stronger players. Getting these 13-year-old kids exposed to different social, cultural and community environments define their true nature and character.”
Aside from Tang, other members of the team include former two-time MVP Rafael Lago Cheng, two-time finals MVP Tristan Clores, Jordan Isaac Yeng, Stephan Fredrick Dy, AJ Shawne Fedillaga, Jase Maverick Gobenghuy, Tristan Eric Gimao, Jandrich Nyven Sy, Paxton Travis Tan, Ethan Robin Teng, Huey Caleb Vergara, Lucas Liam Wee, and Brandon Dominic Coyiuto.
“It was an avenue for our boys to see where they are capable of going and find who they are capable of becoming in the distant future,” added Tang.
The Xavier team’s campaign wouldn’t be possible without the support of PGA Cars, Mt. Fuji. Go For Gold, Farm Fresh, Tubig Pilipinas, Burlington, Acer, AUB, Wee Comm, Anzahl, PC Express, Metrocars.
