JOHN Wall waxed hot early and Bradley Beal took over late as the Washington Wizards got back on the winning track with an easy victory over the Charlotte Hornets, 109-99, at the Spectrum Center on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).
The Wizards were in cruise control for almost the entire game, leading by 14 late in the third before the Hornets cut the lead down to five early in the fourth. But an 11-0 run in middle of the period helped Washington pull away for their largest lead, 93-77, at the 8:25 mark.
The Hornets came as close as seven in the closing minutes but ran out of time as the Wizards held on with Wall sealing the win by hitting clutch free throws down the stretch to snap Charlotte’s three game-win streak.
Wall scored 18 of his 24 points in the first half while Beal had 15 of his 18 after halftime to help the Wizards improve to 24-20 after seeing their four-game win run halted by the Detroit Pistons in their last game. Markieff Morris had 23 markers, while Otto Porter Jr. added a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Kemba Walker led the way for Charlotte (23-22) with 21 points. Marco Belinelli added 18 off the bench while Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller each scored 13.
