THE arms race continues in the East’s top teams as the Atlanta Hawks landed Ersan Ilyasova in a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Tiago Splitter and draft considerations on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
Sources told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst about the trade that addressed the Hawks need for frontcourt help in Ilyasova, who has been playing well for the Sixers this season with averages of 14.8 points and 5.9 rebounds.
With a 32-24 record, Atlanta is just half a game behind the fourth-seed Toronto Raptors, who have also made a splash in trading for Serge Ibaka. Third seed Washington Wizards (34-21) have also swung a deal with the Brooklyn Nets for Bojan Bogdanovic, in an effort to bolster their roster.
Both Ilyasova and Splitter have expiring contracts, but the latter has not played the entire season due to a calf injury and has been plagued by injuries since moving to Atlanta from San Antonio.
The report adds that the Hawks are giving up a future second round pick and handing the Sixers swap rights on another second round pick as part of the trade.
