THE Texas Legends expect more fans, particularly Filipinos, to troop to their games following the selection of Bobby Ray Parks by the NBA D-League team.
Texas Legends senior director of business development and media relations Britney Wynn told Spin.ph that they expect the buzz over the selection of Parks to also translate into more fans at Dr. Pepper Arena, where the squad plays its home games in Frisco, Texas.
Wynn admitted the Texas Legends were pleasantly surprised by the attention generated by tweet announcing its selection of Parks as the 25th pick overall in the last D-League draft.
“The selection of Bobby Ray created quite a buzz on our social media. We were excited about the pick, and our fans mirrored that excitement,” Wynn said in an e-mail interview with Spin.ph.
“The tweet of the selection was one of our highest rated tweets yet, so clearly there is quite a stir around him. I have also noticed the press release sent about the draft was picked up by numerous sources internationally,” said Wynn.
Parks is part of the training camp roster for the Legends, who are affiliated with the Dallas Mavericks, where the two-time UAAP MVP played in the last NBA Summer League.
Wynn said that while they don’t have exact details about who are purchasing tickets, the team, based on the responses on social media, expect a lot of fans, particularly Filipinos, to come out of the Legends games this season.
“We have no way of monitoring who is purchasing tickets unless they call in and specifically mention certain affiliations but we do anticipate he will bring a following both from the Filipino community and those who followed him over the summer with the Mavs,” said Wynn.
Wynn said Parks’ selection will definitely enhance the Legends’ brand internationally with the team also having Indian center Satnam Singh in the training camp roster.
“Mr. Parks has shown himself to be of the character that the Legends are looking for. Our team is unique from others in our charitable orientation and the way we cater specifically to families with children.
“Bobby Ray was a great asset to the Mavs in the Summer League and we believe he will add more of the same to the Legends. Our team has always had a stronger international reach than is typical for our league so the addition of Mr. Parks expands that reach even further,” Wynn said.
