THE Brooklyn Nets wanted a former star point guard as its next coach.
But it wasn’t Jason Kidd.
The Nets have named Steve Nash as the new man calling the shots and expected to lead the team to championship contention behind Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
The 46-year-old Nash takes over from Jacque Vaughn, who will stay as the lead assistant coach.
“Coaching is something I knew I wanted to pursue when the time was right, and I am humbled to be able to work with the outstanding group of players and staff we have here in Brooklyn,” Nash said.
The two-time MVP has had a taste of coaching as the player development consultant for the Golden State Warriors for five seasons.
