Curry, Barnes, Matthews show way as Mavericks add to Cavaliers' woes

THE Mavericks took control in the second and held on to stun the struggling titleholders Cleveland Cavaliers, 104-97, on Monday in Dallas (Tuesday, Manila time).

The Mavericks scored six straight points to peel off from a tight game in the second, taking a 49-43 advantage and never allowed the Cavaliers to get back.

A Seth Curry driving layup off a Harrison Barnes assist pushed the Mavericks ahead by double digits 79-68 in the third on the way to their 17th win in 47 outings.

Harrison Barnes scored 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting as the Mavericks made it back-to-back wins after downing the San Antonio Spurs.

Wes Matthews came up with 21 points and Curry finished with 16 points and four assists.

Kevin Love is still out with back spasms and the Cavaliers saw their win streak end at two, suffering their sixth loss in the last 10 games.

LeBron James scored 23 points on 9 of 19 shooting, while Kyrie Irving had 18 points, making 7 of 21 field goal attempts.
