    Russell Westbrook goes on late scoring tear to lift surging Thunder over Mavericks

    RUSSELL Westbrook exploded for 45 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to its third straight win at the expense of the Dallas Mavericks in a 109-98 victory on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).

    Westbrook, who was named an All-Star reserve earlier, shot 16-of-29 from the field and went 4-for-8 on three-pointers. He also finished with eight rebounds and two assists with four turnovers.

    Dallas led 55-53 at the half before Oklahoma went on a 34-18 scoring binge in the third quarter for an 87-73 advantage.

    The Mavericks then went on a 13-3 run to start the fourth quarter to close the gap to 84-87.

    A Seth Curry jumper cut the lead to 92-98 with 2:45 remaining before Westbrook took over and scored eight straight points to close the game.

    Victor Oladipo had 17 points for the Thunder (28-19) who are currently sixth place in the Western Conference. Steven Adams added 15 points and seven rebounds while rookie Domantas Sabonis finished with 10 points and five boards.

    Harrison Barnes led Dallas with 31 points while Justin Anderson chipped in 17 markers.
