Sixers ride strong first quarter to victory over Pistons

THE Philadelphia 76ers took charge early and cruised to a 97-79 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday in Auburn Hills, Michigan (Monday, Manila time).

Robert Covington had 16 points, while Ersan Ilyasova scored 15 as the Sixers made it back-to-back wins after downing the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Sixers started hot and overpowered the Pistons it the first period 32-12 and never let up to record only their sixth win in 24 games.

TJ McConnell had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Nik Stauskas came off the bench to also score 10 for Philadelphia.

Marcus Morris scored 28, while Andre Drummond had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Detroit, which absorbed its 13th loss in 26 games.
