    Depleted Sixers beat Wizards and spoil Bradley Beal’s 40-point night

    A DEPLETED Philadelphia team survived Bradley Beal’s 40-point night as the 76ers defeated the Washington Wizards 120-112 on Friday night (Saturday, Manila time).

    Robert Covington stepped up and made 5 of 9 three-pointers to lead the Sixers with 25 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Dario Saric had 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists while Gerald Henderson also scored 20.

    The Sixers earlier announced that No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons will not play this season, injured center Joel Embiid was not playing in the game and center Nerlens Noel and forward Ersan Ilyasova were traded before the trade deadline.

    Richaun Holmes had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in his first career double-double alongside Jahlil Okafor who was retained by the 76ers despite being the subject of trade rumors.

    The Sixers used a 61-49 halftime lead as a springboard and extended the advantage in the third quarter, making it 95-78.

    Washington countered with an 8-0 run to make it 95-86, but Philadelphia delivered 13 unanswered points.

    The Wizards attempted a late rally but ran out of time and the 76ers won their season series 2-1.

    John Wall scored 29 for the Wizards, as the Southeast Division leader saw its four-game win streak snapped. Bojan Bogdanovic, acquired from the Nets, scored two points in 18 minutes.
