LANCE Thomas sank the game-winning free throws with 0.2 seconds left as the New York Knicks edged the Washington Wizards, 90-88, at the Madison Square Garden on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).
The Knicks started out hot before the Wizards fought back to take a 7-point halftime lead. But New York mounted a comeback after the break to retake the lead heading into the fourth quarter and set up a wild finish.
With the game tied at 88 and the Knicks in possession for the final shot, Thomas got fouled by Wizards guard Danuel House and calmly sank both charities to win the game.
Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 19 points and Kristaps Porzingis added 16 for the Knicks, who were without Derrick Rose. Brandon Jennings, who started for Rose, and Thomas each chipped in 11 markers as well.
Bradley Beal was the lone starter for the Wizards in double digits with 17 points. The loss also spoiled the preseason debut of John Wall, who finished with eight markers in 16 minutes.
