THE Philadelphia 76ers ended their 23-game losing streak on the road after stunning the New Orleans Pelicans, 99-88, at the Smoothie King Center on Thursday (Friday, Manila time)
Trailing by five at the break, the Sixers turned to their defense to hold the Pelicans to just 5-of25 shooting in the third for 12 points. Sergio Rodriguez caught fire in the third as Philadelphia took a 71-69 after three periods.
Nik Stauskas then waxed hot to start the fourth as the Sixers built an 8-point lead, 81-73, with 8:31 left. But Lance Galloway led a Pelicans counter to come within three 85-82 at 5;49 mark. Philadelphia then unleashed a 13-2 blitz, capped by an Ersan Ilyasova triple, that took the fight out of New Orleans.
Philadelphia also put a stop to its 8-game slide and won its first road game of the season behind Ilyasova’s 23 points. Rodriguez chipped in 16 while Joel Embiid and Stauskas each added 14. The Sixers now own a 5-18 card.
