UNCLE Drew is back.
The septuagenarian alter ego of Cleveland Cavaliers star Kyrie Irving returns as Pepsi honored the 2016 NBA champ with a new ad titled 'Uncle Drew: Champions are Born Out of the Fire.'
The one-minute video shows 'Uncle Drew' in various parts of his training while a voiceover urges young players to find strength to bounce back from adversity and come out a champion.
“You get knocked down, you get back up,” said Uncle Drew, which refers to Irving’s season-ending injury in Game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals where the depleted Cavs lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games.
“The only question is: are you willing to put in that work? Are you willing to stay in the gym after the lights go out?” he added. “Buckets aren’t given away. Buckets are earned. You got that youngblood?”
The 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year was more than just an able sidekick for LeBron James this season, more so in the Finals where Irving averaged 27 points per game. He also sank the crucial three-pointer in the waning seconds of Game 7 to secure the Cavs’ first ever NBA title, ending Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought.
