TWO members of the Golden State Warriors Dance Team stood out when they made their first public appearance on Thursday, simply because they are Pinays.
Warriors cheerleaders Patrisha Festejo Yabes and Clarice Santiago Guido are currently in the Philippines to grace the NBA 3X Philippines event to be held at the Mall of Asia Music Hall this weekend and they are excited to perform before their countrymen.
“It’s an amazing feeling to come back, having the community and my family to support the Warriors. It’s such a blessing and I’m happy to be here,” said Guido, who is finishing her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations and Broadcast Journalism at University of Oregon.
The Warriors Dance Team's trip to the Philippines is a homecoming for Guido, who once lived in the Philippines for two years and studied at OB Montessori in San Juan during her childhood.
On the other hand, Yabes is one of the captains of the group, having been with the squad for five years.
Guido said members of the team are either working or studying when not performing. But she said it was a thrill of a lifetime to be on the sidelines when the Warriors took the NBA crown after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in a best-of-seven series.
“We practice a lot during the week and we try to perfect our routines. It’s really hard but it’s the fans, we have the best fans, we kinda feed off their energy,” said Guido.
“It was just amazing to see the loyal fans celebrating the championship,” said Yabes.
