HOUSTON Rockets forward Chandler Parsons played like a man on a mission against the Indiana Pacers Thursday night in the maiden NBA pre-season game in the Philippines.
After which, he said that’s what Rockets fans can expect from him in the coming 2013-14 season of the league.
“I just tried to do whatever I can every single night, whether play defense, be a facilitator or score. I can bring a lot different things in the game,” Parsons told media men following the Rockets’ 116-96 blowout win over the Pacers on a rainy Thursday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 6-foot-9 Parsons scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds, and had three assists in 29 minutes of inspired play as Filipina actress and model KC Concepcion, whom the player admitted going out on a dinner date during the team’s stay here, was part of the 12,000 crowd that intently watched the game.
But Parsons was intensity personified, stressing the win was a testament to the Rockets’ sudden rise as a contender in the Western Conference following their acquisition of All-Star center Dwight Howard in the off-season.
The former University of Florida star said Houston is now in a better position to challenge traditional West powers such as San Antonio, Oklahoma, the Los Angeles Lakers, and such upcoming teams as Golden State and Los Angeles Clippers.
“We have great opportunity in front of us. We know there are a lot of great teams in the West like San Antonio, the LA Clippers, Golden State, but our job is to focus every single day as a team,” he said.
Parsons was picked by the Rockets in the second round of the 2011 Draft.
