THE Orlando Magic showcased their depth as seven players scored in double figures in an efficient shooting display to take down the Memphis Grizzlies, 112-102, at the Amway Center on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time)
Aaron Gordon led the way in Orlando’s dominant offensive attack with 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the floor, including a flawless 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Elfrid Payton and Serge Ibaka scored 16 apiece, while Nikola Vucevic and Jodie Meeks each added 13 to push the Magic to a 15-18 record after winning its second straight game.
Orlando got off to a strong start with a 23-8 run, then closed the first quarter leading by 18 behind DJ Augustin and Meeks’ hot shooting. The lead ballooned to 29 late in the second quarter, 64-35.
The Magic kept a 25-point edge entering the fourth before Memphis attempted a comeback, starting the quarter with an 8-0 run to get within 17, 96-79. But Orlando managed to keep Memphis at bay each time the Grizzlies rallied, as the lead never dipped below 10 the rest of the way.
Orlando shot 50 percent from the field and from beyond the arc. Bismack Biyombo and Augustin also added 10 apiece for the Magic.
Mike Conley led the Grizzlies with 17 points, while Troy Daniels and Zach Randolph carried the fight in the fourth quarter to finish with 16 and 13 markers, respectively. Marc Gasol and James Ennis each added 11 but couldn’t prevent Memphis from falling to a 20-13 card.
