DIRK Nowitzki was steady from the free throw line as the Dallas Mavericks won against the New Orleans Pelicans 100-97 Wednesday night (Thursday, Manila time).
Nowitzki scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and put Dallas up ahead with a free throw 98-97 with 32.3 seconds left. He partially blocked a dribing floater by Eric Gordon, grabbed the rebound and hit two more free throws with eight seconds left.
Vince Carter scored 15 points form the bench and Monta Ellis had 14.
Jrue Holiday scored a season-high 26 points for New Orelans, who were without injured forward Anthony Davis for the second consecutive game. Al-Farouq Aminu also finished with a career-high 21 rebounds and a season-high 16 points. Ryan Anderson had 18 points and 13 rebounds. The loss snapped the Pelicans' three-game winning streak.
