SAN Antonio held off an undermanned Detroit team as the Spurs’ balanced attack kept the Pistons winless in the preseason, 86-81, at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).

Kawhi Leonard led the way for the Spurs with 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals. San Antonio’s starting frontcourt of Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 11 and 10 markers, respectively.

San Antonio heated up in the second quarter to build an 11-point lead at the break, before the Pistons fought back in the third and cut the deficit down to six heading into the fourth period. But the Spurs held on for the win despite the fight shown by the Pistons.

Andre Drummond had a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds to go with three steals and two blocks for Detroit, but still lost their second straight preseason game. Jon Leuer came off the bench to add 14 markers, while Tobias Harris chipped in 11.

Detroit also announced that lead guard Reggie Jackson was expected to be out for six to eight weeks after receiving treatment on his injured knee and thumb. Ish Smith started in his place but had just two points on 1-of-6 shooting, to go with six rebounds and five assists.
