Houston Rockets mascots poke fun at Miss Universe blunder in halftime skit. WATCH
Houston Rockets mascots spoof the Miss Universe announcement blunder.

NATURALLY, it was the Houston Rockets who got into the Miss Universe act.

The Facebook account of the official mascot of the Houston Rockets, Clutch “The Rockets Bear,” posted on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time) a video with the caption, “I GOT RIPPED OFF!” with the hashtags #MissUniverse2015 and #MascotUniverse2015

In the two-minute video, the arena barker at the Toyota Center announced at halftime of the game between the Rockets and the Charlotte Hornets that a new “Mascot of the Universe” will be chosen between Clutch and Mini Clutch, another mascot at center court.

Clutch was declared the winner but - in true Steve Harvey fashion - the announcement was later retracted a few seconds later while Clutch was celebrating.

“Folks, there has been a mistake, I think. I have to apologize. This is a little embarrassing. The first runner-up was Clutch. The Mascot of the Universe is Mini Clutch!” said the announcer.

With the audience laughing in the background and the announcer saying, “It was an honest mistake, Clutch! I apologize!” the irate mascot went to the officials’ table and later began fighting with the smaller mascot before falling to the floor.

Although done in a light-hearted manner, most found the spoof humorous but several commenters decried it and went to the defense of comedian-host Harvey whose costly mistake in Monday’s beauty pageant in a live broadcast resulted in first runner-up Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, being named Miss Universe instead of the eventual winner Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

The video has since garnered 578,000 views, received 10,700 likes/ reactions and elicited 1,600 comments and has been shared 11,200 times.

Houston won the game, 102-95.
