Heat bounce back and keep playoff hopes alive with victory over Wizards

THE Miami Heat bounced back with a 106-103 victory over the Washington Wizards, boosting its playoff bid on Saturday in Washington (Sunday, Manila time).

Hassan Whiteside showed the way as the Heat, coming off a loss to the Toronto Raptors, stunned the fourth-running Wizards.

The Heat matched the Chicago Bulls’ 39-41 record although they sit just below the cutline.

Whiteside came up with 30 points and 12 rebounds, while Tyler Johnson came off the bench to score 19 for Miami.

Goran Dragic had 18 points and seven rebounds, while James Johnson had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Wizards saw their win streak end at two.

Washington holds a 48-32 win-loss card, behind the Cleveland Cavaliers (51-28), Boston Celtics (51-29) and the Raptors (49-31).

Atlanta is a distant fifth with a 41-38 record.

Markieff Morris led Washington with 21 points, while John Wall and Bradley Beal had 16 points each.
