ISAIAH Thomas took charge in the fourth period as the Boston Celtics rode a late-game surge to take down the depleted Dallas Mavericks, 90-83, on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time) at the TD Garden.

Thomas scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, including 20 of Boston’s last 24, to claw back from a 66-70 deficit in the quarter and hold on against a late Mavs surge.

The Celtics even led by as much as 12 points in the first half but the depleted Mavs, who saw JJ Barea and Deron Williams leave the game due to injuries, fought back and wrested the lead in the fourth quarter, only to fall short in the end.

Thomas finished with 30 points, while Avery Bradley had a double-double of 18 markers and 13 rebounds for the Celtics, who improved to 6-5.

The Mavericks were led by Harrison Barnes with 28 points. Wesley Matthews added 22 but Dallas suffered its third loss in a row and fell to 2-8.
