BOBBY Ray Parks has received words of encouragement from NBA players that he thinks will serve him well, both in his stint with the Dallas Mavericks in the Summer League and his dream to make it to the NBA.

Parks said he got a chance to hear from newly acquired Dallas Mavericks guard Wesley Matthews and talk to Fil-Am guard Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers during his stint in the NBA Summer League.

“Wala akong alam eh,” said Parks, adding advice from the two broadened his knowledge of the NBA experience. “Kailangan, ready lang ako pag may dumating (na opportunity).”

Parks said Matthews spoke before the Mavericks’ Summer League team before they left for Las Vegas. Interestingly, their fathers - Bobby Parks Sr. and Wes Matthews - both played as imports in the PBA.

“Basically, he talked about how the league is. It’s tough and it’s not really that easy to join this league. It takes a lot of dedication and sacrifice even for the other NBA players,” said Parks.

Even though Clarkson is with a different team, Parks said he got a chance to talk with the Lakers guard who made the All-Rookie NBA First Team despite being relegated to the NBA D-League during the course of last season.

Parks said Clarkson’s experience is an inspiration to him.

“I actually met Jordan Clarkson yesterday (Monday) and just had a few words with him. He is a cool guy. He’s been there. He is in the NBA,” said Parks of his fellow Fil-Am, who is also seeing action in the Vegas league.

Parks' campaign in the NBA Summer League continues on Tuesday afternoon (Wednesday early morning Manila time) when the Mavericks face the Washington Wizards and former Ginebra import Orlando Johnson.
