MINNESOTA Timberwolves superstar Kevin Love will visit the country as part of the Master Game Face All-Star Basketball Challenge on June 21 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum
Unilever Male Grooming brand manager Jonathan Pua said Love will be here to watch the exhibition game pitting Team Chris Tiu against Team Marc Pingris and other special events lined up for the annual cage meet.
“Kevin will arrive on June 19, then on the 20th we will have a series of events leading to it,” said Pua.
Love will be part of a charity event in Boystown Marikina and then will personally attend the all-star game that features PBA, Gilas Pilipinas, UAAP, and NCAA cagers composing the teams of Tiu and Pingris.
It will be the first time Love, a gold medalist for the United States in the 2010 Fiba World Championship and 2012 Olympics, will visit the Philippines.
The all-around big man, however, is at the center of trade talks as he is entering in his final year of his contract with the Timberwolves for the 2014-2015 season.
“This is going to be big because we will have players from three different groups -- PBA, UAAP, and NCAA -- and at the same time, it’s the first time Kevin will be coming here,” Pua said.
Asked why the Timberwolves star was the one handpicked to come over for the All-Star game, Pua said Love embodies the brand’s ideals.
“We were looking for a lot of players in the NBA but we saw Kevin Love and he embodies someone who has his game face on, and at the same time, has great skills as a basketball player,” said Pua.
At halftime of the exhibition game, Love will compete in a three-point shootout against players from Team Chris and Team Pingris.
Former members of the Harlem Globetrotters will also be showing their dunking skills during the event.
Tiu’s team is composed of Ranidel De Ocampo, Jeff Chan, Mike Cortez, Jimmy Alapag, Cliff Hodge, Alex Nuyles, Jeron Teng, Chris Newsome, Kevin Ferrer, Mike Tolomia, Rome Dela Rosa, Mark Cruz, and Zach Nichols.
The members of Pingris’ squad are Mark Barroca, Gary David, Larry Fonacier, Jared Dillinger, Jeric Teng, Paul Artadi, Andre Paras, Jeff Javillonar, Jericho Cruz, Roi Sumang, Baser Amer, Kevin Racal, and Josan Nimes.
